Since Queenstown has positioned itself as the premiere resort town in all of New Zealand, it has many more fine restaurants than the average city of 10,000 people. What surprises most people is that the prices found in many of these top restaurants are quite reasonable.

1. The 19th - Steamer Wharf, Queenstown - website

The perfect combination of cuisine, location and friendly service, the 19th is a popular spot with tourists as well as locals and when you get a taste of their wonderful menu, you’ll love it, too.

2. The Boardwalk - Steamer Wharf, Queenstown - website

Another popular fine dining restaurant located on the beautiful Steamer’s Warf, this spot is a little fancier than The 19th, but the wonderfully fresh entrees here are worth putting on a tie for.

3. The Bunker - Cow La., Queenstown - website

From the outside, The Bunker doesn’t look like much, but once you get a taste of the inventive and original dishes served inside, you’ll be more than happy you made the trip.

4. The Bathhouse Restaurant - 28 Marine Parade, Queenstown - website

Don’t let the name fool you; this is an upscale restaurant with service and a view you’ll love. While it may have originally been a bathhouse, the only thing here that is nude is the fresh shellfish.

5. Kepler’s Restaurant - 23 Town Centre, Te Anau - website

If you’re looking for a fine spot that serves superior food without the super-formal dining requirements, Kepler’s is the place to go. Check out the game items on the menu.

6. Kohan Japanese Restaurant - State Hwy. 8, Lake Tekapo - website

While Kohan may be the only Japanese restaurant in town, they do a fantastic job of serving some of the most delicious and best presented Japanese dishes anywhere in New Zealand.

7. Missy’s Kitchen - Ardmore St. and Lakefront Dr., Wanaka - website

If you have had a long day on the slopes and you need that perfect beer, bottle of wine or cocktail, Missy’s is the obvious choice. The food here is excellent, too.

With a view so good it has been known to make people check New Zealand’s immigration laws, the Reflections Café serves mid-priced food that is worth every penny.

9. Saffron - 18 Buckingham St., Arrowtown - website

Saffron’s mission is to add a truly high class, California cuisine style night spot to the Queenstown dining experience, and it accomplishes that goal and more.

10. Settlers Steakhouse - Town Centre, Te Anau - website
